Our leadership team

Tom joined MSIG Specialty Marine as part of the risk function in 2008. He became the Head of Strategy and Underwriting Management for the Marine and Aviation strategic business unit in 2013, and was appointed Managing Director in 2018.

Before joining MSIG Specialty Marine in 2008, Tom worked as an Internal Auditor at ABN AMRO bank, beginning his career in 2004.

Tom holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Building Technology from TU Delft, an Executive Master’s degree in Operational Auditing from Erasmus School of Accounting & Assurance and an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management.

He is also a Chartered Insurer at the Chartered Insurance Institute in the United Kingdom.

Daniella joined MSIG Specialty Marine as a Senior Marine Claims Handler in 2009, before becoming the Head of Claims for MSIG Specialty Marine Insurance SE in 2015. She began her career as a Recovery Specialist at Crawford & Company.

Daniella holds a Master’s in Maritime Law and completed the Maritime Insurance course at Erasmus University Rotterdam. She also holds a Master’s in Transport Law from Grotius Academy.

Koen started his career at MSIG Specialty Marine in 2010 as a Trainee, before becoming Project Manager in 2012. He then moved into underwriting management, and in 2016, became the Underwriting Manager for Europe. In 2020, Koen rose to the position of Operations Director. Koen now serves as Regional Director.

Koen holds a Masters’ degree in Law and Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Utrecht.

Steven started his career at MSIG Specialty Marine in 2008 as a Management Trainee before moving to Underwriting, becoming the Marine Underwriting Manager for Europe in 2013. He spent three years in London from 2014 as the Underwriting Manager for Marine and Aviation.

In 2017, Steven moved back to Belgium and in 2020 became Strategy Director and Country Manager for Belgium. He currently holds the position of Underwriting Director and country manager.

Steven holds a Master’s degree in Financial Management from the Lessius Hogeschool Antwerp, and a Master’s degree in Enterprise Risk Management from the University of Amsterdam.

Katie started her career in the insurance world at AMEV Interlloyd as a Liability Underwriter. Since then she has held various roles in management support and control before becoming the Reinsurance Manager for MSIG Specialty Marine in 2009. In 2015 Katie became the manager Broker Relations & Business Development for MSIG Specialty Marine, taking on the additional role of Carrier Manager in 2020.

Katie holds a Master’s degree in Law of the University of Amsterdam. She also studied Business Administration at the IBO Qualified Business School.

René joined Fortis Corporate Insurance, prior to its acquisition by MSIG Specialty Marine, and has been part of the business’ growth and development as an international Marine Insurer.

Since then, he has been promoted numerous times, from serving as the Global Product Group Leader for Hull as liaison for the Amlin Syndicate and today, he leads the team as Country Manager and Head of the global product group for Hull.

Kristof began his career at MSIG Specialty Marine in 2010 as a Junior Underwriter. Since then, he has held various roles in underwriting and underwriting management in both Antwerp and London. He is currently the Marine Manager for the Antwerp office, responsible for the cargo and liability portfolios.

Kristof completed his Master’s degree in Law from the University of Leuven, graduating in 2009, as well as a Master’s degree in Maritime Law from the University of Antwerp in 2010. Kristof also spent time at Uppsala University as part of the Erasmus programme.

Dan joined MSIG Specialty Marine as an Assistant Underwriting Manager in 2021. Since 2022, he has risen to the role of Underwriting Manager, as well as taking on the additional role of Country Manager for the UK. Dan started his career in 2016 as an Underwriting Analyst at MSIG Specialty Marine’s former Marine and Aviation department.

Dan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from the University of Portsmouth. He has also attained the CII Diploma in Insurance.

Marc joined MSIG Specialty Marine in 2018, leading the office in Hamburg as Country Manager. He has more than 30 years of experience in marine insurance, having worked in both broking and underwriting. Before joining MSIG Specialty Marine, Marc was the Head of Marine for a German insurer.

Marc holds a Master’s degree equivalent in Marine Insurance, and has completed training courses in insurance.

Our Singapore team is headed by Edwin.

Edwin has more than 25 years' experience in the shipping/insurance and legal sphere. He is a qualified English/Singapore Lawyer and qualified Mediator.

Prior experience in the company includes responsibility for marine claims and the commercial relations team in the Asia Pacific region.

Edwin holds an LL.B. (Hons), LLM, is a Barrister-at-law (Middle Temple), an Accredited Mediator and ACII.

Edd joined MSIG Specialty Marine in June 2023 as the Head of Human Resources (HR). With more than 14 years of experience, he has spent most of his career in the HR and recruitment industry working in Hong Kong, before moving back to Europe in 2021.

Edd holds a Bachelor’s degree International Business from the University of Brighton.
